Dr. Horacena Tate is serving her eighth term as the 38th District Senator, and she currently serves on six Georgia Senate standing committees:

  • Rules
  • Appropriations
  • Education & Youth
  • State & Local Governmental Operations
  • Repportionment & Redistricting; and
  • Urban Affairs

She is also Chairman of the Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus.

Dr. Horacena Tate's life is centered on service to her community, a passion that she inherited from the legacy of her pioneering father, Dr. Horace E. Tate.

As chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus for 2013-2014, she is focused on the Building a Healthier Georgia initiative, which addresses the state's economy, healthcare, education reform and transparency in government.

In recent years, Sen. Tate co-sponsored the Georgia laws creating the Martin Luther King Jr. Advisory Council, as well as legislation to strengthen regulations for day care and early learning centers.
