LIFE & TIMES In 1999, Dr. Horacena Tate began her first of seven terms as the 38th District Georgia State Senator. This district is located in the western portion of Fulton County. Senator Tate serves on six (6) GA senate standing committees: Appropriations, Education & Youth, Health & Human Services, Reapportionment & Redistricting, State & Local Governmental Operations and Urban Affairs. Horacena Tate is a lifetime Georgia resident who was born in Griffin and raised in Atlanta. She is a product of the Atlanta City School System and in 1973 graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. She matriculated to the University of Georgia and in 1977 received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Senator Tate received her Master degree in Education Administration in 1988 from Atlanta University and her Doctor of Education degree in 1992 from Clark Atlanta University. Horacena Tate began her professional career with the Georgia Department of Labor after providing volunteer service in the Office of the Governor. For nearly two decades she worked with United Airlines and their subsidiary Apollo Travel Services. Currently, Dr. Tate serves as President of Tate, Marsh and Associate, Inc. a consulting firm that specializes in technical writing and software/management training. Horacena Tate is actively involved with her community. She is member of Cascade United Methodist Church and their ministry, the United Methodist Women Group. Her volunteer efforts include:
