Dr. Horacena Tate’s life is centered on service to her community; a passion that she inherited from the legacy of her pioneering father, Dr. Horace E. Tate. During the 2011-12 legislative term, she has focused her efforts on protecting the HOPE Scholarship program, stronger enforcement of ethics laws and fiscally responsible budget policies. She co-sponsored the newly enacted Georgia laws creating a Martin Luther King Jr. Advisory Council and strengthening regulations for day care and early learning centers. Dr. Tate is serving in her seventh term as the 38th District Senator and she currently serves on six Georgia Senate committees: Appropriations, Education & Youth, Health & Human Services, Reapportionment & Redistricting, State & Local Governmental Operations and Urban Affairs. She is the secretary of Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus (since 2002) and chair of the Atlanta-Fulton County Senate Delegation (since 2006). In 2008 she was elected as a delegate to the Democratic Presidential Convention in Denver.
